August 2024 Wrap-Up

It's hard to believe there are only two more months left in the season. We wish there were more, but when it's time to shut off the water to prevent burst pipes, it's time to stay under warm blankets and hoodies until April. But... we also kick into high gear as September and October are our busiest months.

This month, we opened the 100'x130' Burnout Pit! It has been a hit, mainly with the younger crowd. It is currently $10 to gain pit entry, and you must be 18+ with a valid driver's license. We have a staff member monitoring activities, and they are equipped with a fire extinguisher. If needed, additional safety crew will be radioed with foam extinguishers to minimize damage to your vehicle. A few small competitions have been held there, paying out $50-$100. We look forward to this being a great new addition to the motorplex, and we are considering ideas such as a cone course, remote-controlled cars, and more.

The drag strip saw bracket racing action, which hasn't been held since 2018, prior to the flood. We saw a great turnout and they are headed to Eddyville next. We also held "The Pull Up Car Show" which featured a car show, DJ, and concert on the road course as well as drag racing and burnouts on the dragstrip side. We welcomed back Linoma Street Car Series, which drag races after a short cruise. Unfortunately, we were unable to go into eliminations after a significant full-length oil down in the left lane during Test 'n Tune. We also held a fun Road Course Cash Days which is flashlight start dig racing starting on the North side of the straightaway racing 660' to the South. Always get to see new cars and regulars out there. And lastly, we held Test 'n Tunes and Run What 'ya Brungs most Friday and Saturdays.

On the road course side, we held a Funday Sunday, which allows anyone to run a point-to-pass half course for less experienced drivers or those who are looking for something a little more laid-back. Depreciating Assets' Roll Racing was a hit. We love seeing their group come out with many cars and motorcycles. Also, the Great Plains Porsche Club came out for the "Dog Days DE" track day, which had a great turnout!

We have been working on clearing out debris, junk, and fences by the road course gate and we are getting a temporary power pole set today. Small steps with big hopes. We will park campers in the cleared out area for Ice Cream Cruise along with some temporary lighting and security. Our next goal is to have working restrooms in the old concessions building. The toilets, sinks, walls, and ceiling have already gone through a restoration effort. Now we need lights and fix or replace the sewage pump.

We look forward to seeing everyone in September, especially at Ice Cream Cruise!
