Helmets
An open-face Snell or DOT helmet (full-face is recommended) is required. No half or retro helmets allowed.
The helmet must be properly secured and strapped under the participant's chin when on the racecourse.
Convertible Policy
All convertibles are welcome at any event that does not utilize the full course.
The following policy is applicable to any full course event such as Super Sundays and track days put on by a promoter. We follow SCCA Safety Level 1 Time Trial Rules for convertibles. It is recommended that the following policy is adhered to at all events, short and full. Your safety is our concern and we want you to come home at the end of your fun.
Convertible vehicles up to and including the 2005 model year must have rollover protection meeting one of the following criteria:
-
Documented factory-installed rollover protection. (Examples of manufacturer-documented rollover protection include hydroformed and reinforced a-pillars or windshield frames and factory-installed roll bars and/or “pop-up” bars that are designated as rollover protection.)
-
The convertible vehicle is equipped with an aftermarket roll bar that meets or exceeds standards set in the SCCA Time Trials Rules. (E.g., “style” bars are not acceptable.)
-
Braces and portions of the main hoop subject to contact by the driver’s or passenger’s helmet, as seated normally and restrained by seatbelt and harness, must be padded with a non-resilient material such as Ethafoam® or Ensolite® or other similar material with a minimum thickness of 1/2 inch. Padding meeting SFI spec 45.1 or FIA 8857-2001 is strongly recommended.
-
Convertible vehicles of the 2006 model year or later do not have to have a roll bar if:
-
The vehicle is six (6) cylinders, with the OE engine and may only be naturally aspirated.
-
The vehicle is four (4) cylinders or less, with the OE engine, including the stock turbo/supercharger.
-
Note: This means that for 2006+ vehicles, if the engine is not the original equipment model as delivered in that vehicle, aftermarket forced induction has been installed, or the vehicle has more than six (6) cylinders or six (6) cylinders and forced induction of any type, the vehicle must have aftermarket rollover protection or documented factory rollover protection.
T-top/Targa cars do not count as convertibles.
Flags
Flags convey the commands or information indicated below. They must be obeyed immediately and without question.
Meaning of Each Flag
A. GREEN FLAG (Solid Green)
When displayed, the green flag indicates that the course is clear, and that racing is underway. The green flag is ordinarily shown only by the Starter.
B. YELLOW FLAG (Solid Yellow)
STANDING YELLOW – You are approaching an incident where your and other’s safety are at risk. The racing surface may be clear but there is immediate danger to you or others if you left the racing surface. Slow significantly and proceed through the incident at a reduced speed. There is no passing from the flag until past the emergency incident.
WAVED – You are approaching an incident that has great danger to you and others. The racing surface may be partially or completely blocked. Slow significantly and be prepared to stop. All efforts should be made to proceed through a Waving Yellow Flag in single file order. There is no passing from the flag until past the emergency incident.
The no passing zone starts at a perpendicular line across the track from the flag and ends at a perpendicular line across the track from the last component of the incident causing the yellow flag. The last component may be the car, driver, responding officials, other vehicles and/or large debris.
NOTE: A driver may encounter several flags before reaching the emergency area. The requirements are still the same: SLOW DOWN, NO PASSING.
C. BLUE FLAG (Blue with Diagonal Yellow Stripe)
Another competitor is following very closely or is trying to overtake. This flag may be displayed standing or waving, depending upon the speed differential.
D. BLACK FLAG (Solid Black)
CLOSED BLACK FLAG (Furled) – Pointed or shaken at an individual car: Proceed directly to the pits and the location designated by the Race Director or Chief Steward or event Supplemental Regulations for consultation with Officials. DO NOT TAKE ANOTHER LAP.
E. CHECKERED FLAG (Black and White Checks)
Displayed to indicate that the session is finished. Continue cautiously to the pits.
F. RED FLAG (Solid Red)
Displayed at each station and on the Starter’s stand – EXTREME DANGER – THE SESSION HAS BEEN STOPPED. Come to an immediate, controlled stop at the side of the race track (preferably before and within sight of a staffed station). When released by an official, proceed cautiously to the pits. Once a red flag has been displayed, it will not be withdrawn until all cars have come to a stop.
NOTE: THE RED FLAG CAN ONLY BE DISPLAYED BY ORDER OF THE RACE DIRECTOR OR CHIEF STEWARD AS RELAYED THROUGH RACE CONTROL.

What Sets Us Apart
Created to be a National-Level Recreational Driving Facility designed to handle racecars, streetcars, motorcycles, and police cars that started as a real "built it and they will come" thought with just a cheap website and the honest desire to listen to the racers and drivers and focus on the needs for a world class safe facility that was still fun to drive.
Completed April 2002. The roadcourse is a 2.23-mile gem. Designed by world-renowned designer Alan Wilson, the track has been a sought after venue for many of the motorsports organizations. An alternate 1.3-mile short course is available on the South portion.

How It All Started
Mid-America Motorplex's (the original name) founder, Aaron Johnson, had traveled across the United States to many tracks with club racers and was frustrated by seeing the traditional tracks with concrete walls, poor run-offs, poor facilities, and poor visibility for spectators. It seemed that most tracks were packed full of concrete walls that only rewarded a mishap with damage with the high possibility of personal loss. He was always amazed by the every weekend occurrence of that unlucky driver that hit a wall. The safety truck would pull the car off course, and then the flocks of people gathered around to take pictures, and everyone just hoped that they would be luckier, smarter, or safer.

Tracks should be places to come together as a family of motorsports and should have some modern-day features as well. Mid-America Motorplex (MAM) had clean air-conditioned bathrooms, private climate-controlled showers, a doctor's office, a manmade swimming hole, and seating for 7,000 guests that can in fact see every turn and straight on the 217 acres of MAM. Great food was always available as was air, water, and a 24-hour accessible race fuel station.
MAM was bought by Mid-Am Racing, Corp, known as "Raceway Park of the Midlands", and in 2024 by "I29 Raceway, Inc.".
In 2019, the Missouri River took over the motorplex, 10 feet high, causing millions in damages for a month after a devastating levy failure. It once again happened later that year while levy repair was in progress. The road course continues to bring excitement to both events and private testing alike. Today, many amenities are no longer available as we continue to rebuild.
